For many of us, Facebook is much more than a social media platform—it’s a digital scrapbook of our lives. It’s where we document our kids’ first steps, post milestone moments, share videos of family holidays, and connect with friends near and far. It’s the go-to place for preserving memories and keeping our loved ones in the loop.
Now imagine losing access to all of it.
Whether due to a hacked account, accidental deletion, or Facebook policy issues, losing your account can feel devastating. All those irreplaceable photos, videos, and heartfelt comments—gone in an instant. For moms especially, who often use Facebook as a central hub for archiving family memories, it’s more than just an inconvenience; it’s heartbreaking.
The good news? You can take action today to secure all of that data. Facebook allows you to download your account’s contents—including every photo, video, post, and comment you’ve ever shared—so you’ll have peace of mind knowing your memories are safe, no matter what.
Here are 9 simple steps to download your Facebook data and protect those precious memories:
Step One

On a desktop computer, login to your Facebook account. In the upper right hand corner where it has your picture, click your picture and choose “Settings and privacy” from the dropdown options.
Step 2

Next click “Settings” on the drop down list of options.
Step Three

On the left-hand side of the screen under “Your Information”, choose “Download your information”.
Step Four

You will be asked to click a “Continue” button to move on.
Step Five

On the next screen, click the “Download or transfer information” button to continue on.
Step Six

If you have multiple accounts, such as a Facebook account, Business Page account, or Instagram account, you’ll be asked to choose which, if not all, information to be downloaded. Choose the account(s) you wish and then click “Next”.
Step Seven

This allows you the ability to choose what information you want the download to include.
The “Available information” will contain all of your information, including your activity on the site using the account(s). It will give you the interactions, device info, third-party apps and websites, profile information, connections, and logged actions.
If you prefer to only download specific types of information, choose that option and you’ll be able to click on what you want your download to include.
Step Eight

Here you can decide if you want it to download to your computer or transfer the information. You would do a transfer if you were starting a new account, for instance, and wanted the old information to be included on the new account.
Your options for transferring the data include: Google Photos, Dropbox, Koofr, Photobucket, and Backblaze B2.
Step Nine

This is it! The final step! All you need to do now is choose your date range, where you want to be notified when the download is ready, what format you prefer the information and the media quality. Click “Create files” and you’re done!
Taking these steps doesn’t just protect your digital memories—it gives you peace of mind. Life is unpredictable, and while we can’t control everything, we can safeguard the moments that matter most.
So, whether it’s baby pictures, heartfelt birthday messages, or that funny video your family re-watches every year, don’t leave your memories to chance. Take action today and secure your Facebook data.
This is awesome. You are awesome! Thank you!
Feelings are mutual!
